Bordeaux
The region of Bordeaux is naturally famous
around the world, thanks to his vineyard, but the city
itself offers a big interest, alliance of history and
modernity. Information about Bordeaux in general is
provided at the
Bordeaux Tourist Office.
Gironde
In
Gironde, the Atlantic Ocean encounters
the Garonne and Dordogne rivers. On this land, where
the Bordeaux vineyard has been blossoming for
centuries, the architecture shows signs of a
prestigious past and today alternates with nature
waiting to be discovered. The way of life in the South
West is a combination of festivities, tradition and
gastronomy in a land of contrast and cultures.
A region of wine
Bordeaux has always been
associated with the exceptional quality of its wines by
wine lovers from around the world. Its reputation is based
on the prestigious red wines from Médoc, Saint-Emilion or
Pessac-Léognan, and the sweet white wines from Sauternes.
Bordeaux is the second largest wine region in the world,
with over 284320 acres under vine, 57 appellations, 9000
wine-producing châteaux, and 13000 grape growers.
Atlantic coast
The Gironde includes 180 kilometres
of beaches, with surf possibilities in exceptional spots.
Along the coast some famous places are situated, as the
Dune du Pyla, the highest sand dune of Europe (107
m), or the city of
Arcachon.
Reaching Bordeaux
You can best reach Bordeaux by
plane. Visit the website of the
Bordeaux airport. There, you can find a
list of
airlines operating from Bordeaux and a
description of how to get from the airport to the city
of Bordeaux by
car, taxi or bus. You can also go by
train, but this means that you probably have to go via
Paris and take a train from there, which will take
about three hours to get to Bordeaux. See the
TGV Europe website for tickets and
timetables.
